oct 6 class topics

Hey guys,

My ideas for some things to talk about in class.

1. Who were targeting: Hate groups such as new anti-muslim groups emerging, skinheads and ku klux klan, as well as the WBC

2. What we want the target to do: We want these groups to stop hatin yo. what ever happened to "if you don't have anything nice to say, then dont say it" People will always have their own crazy opinions and thoughts on things but we should never speak out hatefully towards any group based on their race, religion, sexual preference. A certain degree of respect is needed and expected all across the board. We want there to be more unity and respect for our differences.

3. How to put pressure on our targets: Prepare steps for a community to take before a hate group comes to protest in order to counter there protest. Most hate groups such as the WBC or the Klan are normally looking for conflict because this is how they can gain new members. We can put pressure on our targets by making a clear public rejection of there hate. Silence and fear within a community only allow the hate message to be conveyed for longer and opposition to the message must be made.

4. How we expect it to work: If the entire community stands up as a whole and rejects and denounces hate groups and their hateful speech then this should be enough to make the hate groups feel as if theyve failed at conveying there message. There must be strong community rejection consistently whenever a hate group pickets or protests within a community.

Please comment and let me know what you agree with or disagree as far as our approach on this. We have to talk about it in class tonight.

  1. to expand on number 3. by "clear public rejection" I don't neccesarily mean counter-protests, in a lot of scenarios this will only give the group more attention that they crave. There must be a community absence at the pickett or protest and instead other things must be organized and made clear to the hate group that there bigotry isnt tolerated in that community. Things such as buying ads in newspapers about unity, writing editorials in newspapers and organizing other community building activities on the same day the hate group will be in town to counter there hateful messages.
